Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about poker. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental feedback from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
He started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his success. He knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.
Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
