No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup everything he could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse feedback from others kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.
Phil began playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every day and is quite humble about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and always strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
