No-Limit Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the planet by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the negative comments from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil began competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching period and winning was not a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his success. Phil admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always aspires to get better.
Even though Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
