No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player in the world by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
He began playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
