NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player in the world by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup everything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse comments from other people kill his dream of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.
He started playing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning experience and winning was not a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always strives to get better.
Even though Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
