Net High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the last game in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a large pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best gamblers in the world. While competing in online poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He regularly plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I know Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has no reason to sit at the table with the min buy in.
Buying in for the min takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total amount. I believe tv can skew our view of the real world at times. The best poker players anywhere in the world might be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be found playing web poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in big stakes omaha hold’em and Holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in cash games?
