NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Howard Lederer?

Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 in which he loved playing different card games when he was young. He found himself becoming really aggressive in these card games while playing his father. After graduating from secondary school, Howard decided to place higher education on hold for a little while and headed to New York City to play some formidable chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s initial two years were difficult as he would play many hours and don’t win a majority of the time. He earned some extra money by being an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he possibly could improve his game by balancing his life away from poker. He made an attempt to acquire more rest and concentrate even more on poker.

The actual improvement in his skills happened when he started betting at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest gamblers would frequently challenge each other. Howard was able to access some of the best minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard would sharpen his cunning thinking techniques. Howard applied these strategy concepts to the game of NL Texas Holdem.

He also helped his sister Annie Duke learn poker. She was a superb student of the game as she would consistently be asking questions about how to make the correct decision. Howard told Annie to move out to Vegas and compete in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie is one of the strongest women players the poker world today. He headed to Las Vegas in 1993 and participated in cash games for the next 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, he made the decision to play more tournaments.
